Why Opportunity for More?

America is the land of opportunity–but not for everyone. Growing systemic inequalities have pushed the American Dream beyond the reach of too many.

Under current conditions, our nation’s social problems are only poised to grow, leading to the rich getting richer–with fewer opportunities for everyone else.

We fundamentally believe (and research shows!) that building an America with greater opportunity for all, along with a safety net for our nation’s most vulnerable, is not only the right thing to do – it yields dividends for all of us, and leads to a stronger America, too.

America by the numbers…

“This country has socialism for the rich, and rugged individualism for the poor.”

Martin Luther King Jr

“There’s class warfare, all right, but it’s my class, the rich class, that’s making war, and we’re winning.”

Malcolm Forbes

Key Issues

Most other industrialized nations invest about 5x more than the US on job and skills training. On average, college costs nearly twice as much in the US as it does in other developed countries.

Over 100,000,000 Americans are burdered with a collective $140 billion in medical debt – and the majority of those individuals have health insurance.

Nearly 1 in 3 American adults and half of all children have depended on our social safety net at one time or another.

Providing access to financial services to the millions of Americans who currently lack it could yield a 4-6% growth in US GDP by 2028.

20% of Americans still lack the reliable internet access critical to participate in today’s economy and society. Internet access is more expensive in the US than in most industrialized nations.

The US lags behind other industrial nations in worker rights. It’s the only nation that doesn’t require paid parental leave and among few without mandated vacation, breaks, or severance pay.

Ensuring fair access to the vote, and that our elected representatives serve all – not just special interests.

With a swifter, easier pathway to citizenship – because immigrants are and always have been critical contributers to our nation’s story and economy.

Wealthy Americans pay a payroll tax rate of just 1.9% versus 14.1% for the poorest. It’s time to close tax loopholes and make the rich pay their fair share.
